City of the Living Dead (Paura nella citta dei morti viventi) is the first installment in Lucio Fulci's The Gates of Hell trilogy. The movie starts us off with a member of a seance falling dead after seeing a priest who has hung himself in a cemetery. She awakens a few days later buried alive and desperately attempting to claw herself free from her early grave.
The events she had witness were the signs of a prophecy foretold that the living dead would soon enter or world on All Saints Day if not stopped. Soon a rag tag of unlikely heroes must over come millions of maggots, intestinal incontinence, and skull shattering zombies. The movie did not skimp out on the red stuff and is one of many great zombie flicks to come out of Italy.
