For this challenge I chose, Scream Greats Vol. 2, Satanism and Witchcraft (1986). It follows Scream Greats Vol 1; Tom Savini, Master of Horror Effects and was the last of the Scream Greats series by Fangoria. This one was directed by Damon Santostefano, an American Screen Writer & director. It follows the rise of devil cults, witches and other elements of the "black arts". I honestly chose this one because it was one I hadn't previously watched & it was released in the mid-80's and it did not disappoint in the cheesy factor.
This film has a little bit of everything to offer the viewer. Every so often there's movie clips from classic films such as, Rosemary's Baby and The Wicker Man. Plenty of people are included in the interviews; Paul Douglas Valentine, Ed & Loraine Warren, Ted Gunderson & Lady Rhea. Additionally, it's topped with corny 80's flare, the intro is fun and exactly what you would expect from this decade.
Paul Douglas Valentine, self-proclaimed leader of Satanism and the owner/operator of the Worldwide Church of Satanic Liberation, provides a lot of great & useful information. While Ed and Lorraine Warren add some fairly comical moments. They also interview so-called witnesses that claim they had viewed child sacrifices, which these never actually took place.
Overall, this documentary is interesting, informative and comical. If you decide to give it a go, don't forget the year it was released & the topic at hand. I'd also suggest not taking it too seriously & watch it for it's shear entertainment purpose.
